What Are Sandwich Board Signs?
These are printed sandwich boards with a plastic frame, not chalkboard or wooden A-frames. Printed faces stay sharp outdoors and swap out in minutes, which makes them a durable sidewalk menu board for cafes and restaurants.
Custom sandwich board signs are ideal for local businesses as an affordable way to capture passersby’s attention without a permanent installation. They let you swap messaging as often as your promotions change.
Retailers utilize custom A-framed signs to promote sales, new arrivals, or store hours. Restaurants post daily specials or menu changes. Event planners direct guests to entrances, parking, or registration. Contractors post job-site notices and visitor directions.
Sandwich board signs work for both indoor and outdoor use. The frame and graphics are weather-resistant, so the sign holds up on sidewalks and parking lots. In open or windy spots, fill the frame columns with dry sand for extra stability. Retailers also use the same sign indoors, in aisles, lobbies, or trade show floors.
Custom A-frame signs are built for daily deployment. Set them up when you’re open and bring them in when you close up for the day. The frame lasts for years, while the faces swap out easily for short-term promotions and seasonal messaging.
Every sandwich board sign includes double-sided printing with the same or different graphics. Choose the reflective print option to keep your sign visible after dark. The reflective surface catches headlights and streetlights, so the sign reads clearly at night.
Design and print A-frame signs with our sign design platform. We ship across the US, with delivery to Canada available.
Printing Technology and Materials of a Sandwich Board
Our sandwich boards come with standard and quick-change frames, both available in white and black. The graphic sheet on the standard sandwich board A-frame sign features an opaque adhesive vinyl or a reflective adhesive vinyl on both sides. You can peel either type off and replace it when you want to update your design.
The inserts for the changeable A-frame signage use standard corrugated plastic or coroplast with a reflective surface. Both faces are available in a 24" x 36" size to guarantee a proper fit. You can order the faces separately if you already have the frame and want to change its graphics.
Choose our reflective option to provide visibility to your signs at night. Our engineer-grade reflective vinyl contains a layer of microscopic glass beads under a resin layer. They catch light and redirect it back toward the eyes rather than letting it scatter.
This works especially well for site notices, caution displays, parking lots, or evening events.

Types of A-Frame Signage
-
Standard Sandwich Boards: Our regular sandwich sign options are made of white or black plastic. The image prints on opaque or reflective adhesive vinyl and sticks to the frame after printing. You’re free to switch designs whenever you desire. Peel the vinyl face and replace it with a new one.
The black or white sandwich board frame measures 26" x 46". The graphics on it are 24" x 36" in size. This product weighs 18.5 lbs, and the frames have empty columns, which you can fill with sand to make them more stable. This will add around 10 lbs to its overall weight. The frame has locking hinges to prevent the product from opening wider than intended.
-
Quick-Change Boards: We have quick-change sandwich sign stands in two colors: white and black. We print the designs on standard or reflective corrugated plastic sheets and insert them into the frame. It has “stay tabs” that protect rigid material from falling off. The option lets you change displays by pulling out the old ones and sliding in new graphics.
Quick-change sandwich board signage measures 27" x 47". The size of the printed surfaces is 24" x 36". These products weigh 20 lbs and have ballasting columns that hold about 10 lbs of sand. The locked hinges prevent the frame from hyperextending.

Lamination Options for A-Frame Advertising Signs
- Glossy Lamination: It enhances your display’s shine and shields it from wear. The surface is glossy but not rewritable with glossy lamination.
- Matte Lamination: This option creates a glare-free finish and protects your board from scratches and fading. Use it if you want the unprinted areas to match the matte look of the printed sections.
- Anti-Graffiti (Dry-Erase) Lamination: It provides a glossy finish, extra protection, and a rewritable surface. Write with a temporary marker on the board and erase it with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Installation
Weather-resistant A-frame signs come either with vinyl or corrugated plastic faces. You can change them by replacing them with new graphics.
How to Change Vinyl Faces: Peel off the old vinyl and clean the application area with a damp, non-abrasive cloth. Stick the new vinyl to the panel and smooth it out with a squeegee or a plastic card.
How to Change Corrugated Plastic Inserts: Pull out the old corrugated plastic panel and slide in the new one. Make sure you don’t fold or damage it during the installation.
* We provide faces for A-frame signs only in a 24” x 36” size. Please note this before ordering new graphics for your frame.
Care and Storage of Custom A-frame Sidewalk Signs
Reflective inserts also need the same gentle care, plus one extra step. Dry them fully before folding your sign closed. Trapped moisture can dull the reflective coating over time.
Store your product upright in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. You can also snap the frame closed and store it flat. Don’t place other items atop it to protect it from damage.

- Yes, printed A-frame signs are an excellent choice for outdoor advertising. Your message will be highly visible to passersby if you position it on the sidewalk or by your storefront. However, don’t leave it outdoors overnight to avoid potential theft and damage by strong winds.
- You might be allowed to place sandwich boards in an area that’s not a residential zoning district. Please check city regulations beforehand to see if you can use this product in a specific location.
- The stands last five to 10 years outdoors. The prints, either vinyl or corrugated plastic, last from three to five years. Longevity depends on where you’ll use the product and how well you’ll maintain it. Boards may dent or fade under harsh conditions, so avoid scorching sunlight and strong winds.
- Use mild soapy water and a soft cloth to clean your A-frame sign, avoiding abrasive chemicals. Fill the frame with dry sand to prevent tipping in the wind, and bring the sign inside during severe weather or when not in use. Store it in a dry, cool place, upright or flat, and don’t place other items on top of it.
- The standard option uses opaque vinyl, built for daytime visibility. Reflective vinyl adds visibility after dark. It bounces light back under headlights or streetlights, so your sign stays easy to see at night.
The product itself is 3" thick when folded. The opaque and reflective vinyl are both 0.004" (4 mil) thick. Corrugated plastic inserts are 4 mm (0.16") thick.
- We print reflective A-frame signs on engineer-grade reflective vinyl, the same class of material found on many parking and street signs. It catches and bounces back available light, so your sign reads clearly from a distance, even in low light or from a moving vehicle. The material also holds up outdoors, resisting fading and wear from daily use.
- We produce our sandwich boards in two business days. You can also opt for fast turnaround that reduces that time to one business day. Shipping may take up to a week after that, depending on your location.
- Place it where foot traffic is heaviest. This can be your entrance, a busy corner, or near a parking area. Keep it on level ground for stability, and avoid blocking walkways or accessibility paths.
