A custom backlit decal is a translucent vinyl graphic that lets light pass through it. Backlit decals are made of a see-through material that glows when illuminated from behind. They're applied to transparent surfaces such as acrylic, lexan, or glass, with lighting placed behind them to illuminate the designs.

Do backlit decals come with lights?

No, backlit decals do not include lighting systems. We provide the translucent vinyl decals only, not complete backlit signs. However, you can easily create your own custom backlit sign by placing LED or other light sources behind the transparent surface on which you apply the decal. In addition, our sister company Front Signs creates fully-custom lightbox signs. You can let them know what you’re looking for, and they’ll give you a quote for the project.

Are backlit decals visible at night?

Backlit decals need lighting to be visible, and without it, they appear faded. Translucent vinyl for backlit signs works with backlighting that’s visible day and night.

Will translucent vinyl damage the window?

No, it won’t. They can be removed whenever you want to change them. Hence, you can update your graphics as often as needed without worrying about harming the surface.

Are backlit signs durable?

Yes, backlit decals are durable and can last over three years with proper care. Backlit signage printing is done with UV inks that resist sun damage and fading. For extra protection, you can add lamination to make the surface scratch-resistant and further extend its lifespan. The UV ink-curing process when printing backlit signs ensures your colors remain vivid for a long time.

Lamination adds a thin protective layer to your backlit decals. This process makes backlit decals scratch-resistant and more durable. We offer three lamination options:

• Glossy Lamination: Provides enhanced brilliance and a shiny finish.
• Matte Lamination: Offers better color contrast with a non-reflective surface.
• Dry-erase Lamination: Creates a whiteboard-like surface you can repeatedly write on and wipe clean.

We offer lamination options for backlit decals. It’s entirely up to you whether your backlit decal is laminated or not.
